Dr. Shawn Davis Launches Monthly ‘Walk with a Doc’ Community Initiative in Houston

The Texas Medical Association (TMA) announced the inaugural “Walk with a Doc Texas,” hosted by Dr. Shawn Davis of the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, will be held at 8 a.m. June 27 at the Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve.

Participants will gather at the preserve’s main pavilion near the parking lot to engage in physical activity and health-focused dialogue with local medical experts. All ages are invited to participate.

The concept behind the international movement is for local physicians to organize community walks and invite patients, families, and neighbors to join them. The events require no preregistration or fees.

Each session begins with a brief health information talk provided by Dr. Davis, followed by a walk where participants can ask healthcare questions and receive encouragement from Kelsey-Seybold medical staff in an informal setting.

Following the launch, the event will transition into a recurring monthly program, taking place every last Saturday of the month at the same time and location.

The Walk with a Doc grassroots initiative originally launched in 2005 under the direction of Dr. David Sabgir, a board-certified cardiologist based in Columbus, Ohio, who wanted to inspire communities through movement and conversation.

On the state level, the Texas chapters are backed by the TMA, the nation’s largest state medical society representing over 60,000 physicians and medical students. For 2026, the Texas programs are sustained by the TMA Foundation, featuring primary operational funding from the TMA Insurance Trust alongside private contributions from medical institutions and local physician families.
