Governor Abbott, HHSC Announce SNAP Replacement Benefits Extension for Flood-Affected Texans

Gov. Greg Abbott and HHSC announced federal approval to extend the SNAP replacement benefit application period for food lost in July flooding, with Sutton and Zavala counties added to eligibility.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission received federal approval to extend the time SNAP recipients can apply for replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed by July flooding, according to an Aug. 3 news release from HHSC.

At HHSC’s request, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Administration also approved SNAP replacement benefits for recipients living in Sutton and Zavala counties, the agency said.

Details on applying for replacement benefits are available through HHSC, according to the release.
