Comptroller’s Review Team Completes On-Site Evaluation of Prosper ISD

The Texas Comptroller’s performance review team has finished its on-site evaluation of Prosper ISD and will release a comprehensive review of district operations by year’s end, according to an Oct. 27 news release.

The Texas Comptroller’s performance review team has completed its on-site evaluation of Prosper Independent School District and is now analyzing the information it gathered, Comptroller Don Huffines announced Oct. 27, according to a news release from his office.

The team will release a comprehensive review of district operations by the end of the year, the agency said. Prosper is the first of four districts to receive an on-site visit. Earlier this month, Huffines selected Prosper, along with Austin, Barbers Hill and El Paso school districts, for detailed performance reviews intended to determine whether district spending complies with state law and reaches students, classrooms and teachers rather than contributing to administrative growth or non-instructional bureaucracy, according to the release.

The release said Gov. Greg Abbott requested the reviews so the Legislature can consider the findings before the start of the next legislative session in January 2027.

“Texans must have confidence that their school tax dollars support educational opportunities for students, not layers of bureaucracy in central administrative offices,” Huffines said in the release. “We will document wasteful or inappropriate spending wherever we find it and report our findings to the Legislature and the people of Texas.”

The comptroller also invited public input. “We are reviewing a tremendous amount of data, but we also want to hear from Texans. If you are aware of suspicious activity related to this or any other school district, I encourage you to visit our new online portal to report government waste and fraud, which is available on the agency’s website,” Huffines said.

Huffines emphasized that the review will be conducted “professionally and transparently to protect taxpayers and ensure Texas students can learn in the best schools in America,” the release said.

With the on-site work finished at Prosper, the agency’s analysis phase begins, and the findings are expected to be presented to lawmakers ahead of the 2027 session.
