The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is asking Texans to weigh in on the future of US 83 through a statewide survey open until Dec. 19, according to a Nov. 4 news release from the agency.
The input will support the US 83 Texas Corridor Study, which TxDOT said will establish a long-range implementation plan to guide improvements along the corridor. The agency said public feedback gathered through the survey will help it evaluate future transportation needs and potential improvements along US 83 from Carrizo Springs, Texas, to the Texas/Oklahoma state line.
According to TxDOT, the statewide study will consider existing roadway conditions, traffic operations, safety concerns, and anticipated growth throughout the corridor. The agency said the work is meant to identify both current and future needs along the route.
TxDOT said community participation will play an important role in the process. Through the online survey, residents, businesses, commuters, and other corridor users are encouraged to share their experiences and priorities to help identify transportation needs and opportunities, the agency said. Feedback received from the public will be an integral part of the larger stakeholder involvement for the study, according to the release.
The agency said the study is expected to be completed by late 2027. Texans who want to take the survey or learn more can visit the US 83 Texas Corridor Study page on the TxDOT website, the release noted.
For communities along the corridor, the survey offers an early opportunity to shape a plan that will guide how the state approaches improvements to US 83 in the years ahead.
