Land Commissioner Buckingham Encourages Texans to Attend Veterans Day Events at State Veterans Homes

Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham is encouraging Texans to attend public Veterans Day events at Texas State Veterans Homes across the state, with no RSVP required, according to the General Land Office.

Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is encouraging Texans to attend Veterans Day events scheduled at multiple Texas State Veterans Homes, according to a news release from the Texas General Land Office (GLO).

Buckingham, who also chairs the Veterans Land Board (VLB), said in the release that no RSVP is required and that all events listed are open to the public. The El Paso ceremony is the exception: the GLO said that event is not open to the public and is for media only.

Two events fall before Veterans Day itself, according to the GLO. The Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler will hold a veterans parade Friday, Nov. 6, at 9 a.m. at 11466 Honor Lane. The Richard A. Anderson Texas State Veterans Home in Houston will hold a veterans parade, fair, and classic car show Saturday, Nov. 7, at 9 a.m. at 14041 Cottingham Street.

On Wednesday, Nov. 11, the GLO said, ceremonies are planned at seven homes. They include the Ambrosio Guillen home in El Paso at 10:30 a.m.; the Tuskegee Airmen home in Fort Worth at 11 a.m.; the Clyde W. Cosper home in Bonham at 11 a.m.; the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez home in Big Spring at 10:30 a.m., which will also feature a car and motorcycle show; the Alfredo Gonzalez home in McAllen at 10 a.m.; the William R. Courtney home in Temple at 10 a.m.; and the Frank M. Tejada home in Floresville at 9:30 a.m.

The release listed street addresses for each location and directed media with questions to contact the GLO Press Office.

The events give Texans in several regions a chance to honor veterans in person at the state-run homes that serve them.
