The Texas Department of Transportation is preparing to mark the completion of the $80 million US 75 Last Mile Project in Anna, a Collin County effort aimed at easing congestion and improving safety along one of North Texas’ busiest corridors.
According to a July 23 news release, the project covers the final one-mile stretch of US 75 between County Road 370 and the Grayson County line — the last piece of a decades-long effort to relieve congestion along the corridor.
Improvements include full reconstruction and widening of the highway from a rural four-lane road to six lanes, three in each direction, along with the conversion of two-way frontage roads into one-way frontage roads and reconstruction of the Mantua Road/CR 371 cross-street bridge. The agency said a central goal was removing a bottleneck for traffic heading north into Grayson County.
TxDOT Project Manager Mike Hudek said the area saw near-immediate economic effects. “As we were finishing our reconstruction of US 75, we were also seeing commercial developments kicking off in the area at the same time,” Hudek said. The department noted that Collin County ranks among the fastest-growing counties in the nation, with Anna cited as one of the fastest-growing cities in a recent U.S. Census Bureau report.
TxDOT said it will continue to look for opportunities to improve mobility in Collin County as demand grows.
