The Texas Workforce Commission announced the 15th annual Hiring Red, White & You! event series, which will bring nearly 30 free hiring events to communities across the state from Nov. 2 to 20, according to an Oct. 26 news release.
The events connect veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses with Texas employers. TWC said it is partnering on the series with Texas Workforce Solutions, the Texas Veterans Commission and the Texas Medical Center.
The agency said more than 1.4 million veterans live in Texas. Since 2012, it said, the events have connected more than 28,000 employers with 167,000 job seekers, including 56,157 active-duty military, transitioning service members, veterans and spouses. The release also said the events have resulted in more than 4,100 same-day hires.
Gov. Greg Abbott said in the release that Texas is “the best place for veterans and military families.”
TWC Chairman Joe Esparza described the initiative as a way of thanking veterans by connecting them with career opportunities. Laura Koerner, Texas Veterans Commission chairwoman and a Navy veteran, said the events create important opportunities for veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses. TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III said they give the military community direct connections to high-demand careers, while TWC Commissioner Representing the Public Brent Connett said hiring veterans is a smart business decision.
Employers can take part at no cost, the agency said. More details are available on TWC’s Hiring Red, White & You! page, and information on all veteran workforce services can be found at twc.texas.gov/veterans.
