Texas Game Wardens will celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day 2026 at the Texas State Capitol on Sept. 28. There will be interactive displays, specialized equipment and opportunities for the public to meet the game wardens who protect Texas’ natural resources and communities, according to a Sept. 25 news release from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The event follows National Hunting and Fishing Day on Sept. 26, recognized through a proclamation issued by Gov. Greg Abbott, TPWD said. The annual observance celebrates Texas’ outdoor heritage and recognizes the contributions hunters and anglers make to wildlife conservation, habitat management and local economies, according to the department.
The public and media are invited to visit with Texas Game Wardens and learn about their work in conservation law enforcement, boating safety, search and rescue and public safety, TPWD said. Local game wardens will be joined by personnel from several specialized teams and programs, according to the release.
Featured displays will include rescue boats and equipment used during flood response and other search and rescue operations, a demonstration of the drone technology game wardens use for conservation law enforcement and emergency response, and an appearance by the Texas Game Warden K9 Team, according to TPWD. The department said visitors will also be able to try a new interactive boating simulator designed to teach safe boating practices, view the Operation Game Thief “Wall of Shame” display of illegally taken wildlife and aquatic resources, and speak with Central Texas recruiters about game warden careers and academy training.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Texas State Capitol’s Great Walk at East 11th Street and Congress Avenue in Austin, according to the release. TPWD said media are invited to attend and interview game wardens, and asked that those planning to attend email news@tpwd.texas.gov, though RSVPs are not required.
