Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced Oct. 5 the opening of a promotional land sale for veterans and the general public through the Veterans Land Board, according to a news release from the Texas General Land Office.
Buckingham, who chairs the Veterans Land Board, announced that 11 tracts totaling more than 30 acres are now available in the board’s statewide promotional sale, the agency said. Four of the tracts are offered to veterans only, while seven are offered to the general public.
According to the release, all 11 tracts are offered at 0 percent down when buyers use the board’s land loan program. The agency said the current interest rate is 7.25 percent for veterans and 8.25 percent for non-veterans. Land loans are processed as traditional mortgage loans, with a note and deed of trust, the release said.
The agency said the sale will remain open until all of the tracts have sold and that listed prices are firm. Promotional tracts are marked in red on the board’s land sale listings, which can be viewed through the Veterans Land Board’s Promotional Land Sale button on the agency’s website. Photos with the release showed a tract of more than 1.5 acres in Navarro County and a 3.25-acre tract in Medina County.
All applicants requesting board financing are subject to credit approval, according to the release. Rules for the public land sale are laid out in the Veterans Land Board Public Land Sale Handbook, which the agency links from its announcement.
The announcement is part of the Veterans Land Board’s ongoing land and home loan programs for Texas veterans. The release did not list the counties of every tract or the individual prices. Interested buyers can find the full list and contact information on the General Land Office website, and the agency’s press office can be reached at 512-936-9582 or media@glo.texas.gov.
