Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham is encouraging Texans to attend flag placement ceremonies at four Veterans Land Board cemeteries between Nov. 6 and Nov. 11 to honor those who served.

Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., who chairs the Veterans Land Board (VLB), is encouraging Texans to attend flag placement ceremonies at VLB state veterans cemeteries this Veterans Day, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) said in a news release.

The ceremonies are intended to honor the men and women who served the nation, according to the release. The agency said flags will be provided on-site and no RSVP is needed.

The GLO listed four ceremonies. The Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, at 7457 W. Lake Road, will hold its ceremony Friday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m. The Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, at 9974 IH 37 Access Road in Corpus Christi, will follow Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m.

On Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, at 11463 Fort Hood Street in Killeen, will hold its ceremony at 8 a.m., and the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, at 2520 Inspiration Road in Mission, will hold its ceremony at 9 a.m., the agency said.

The GLO said Buckingham made history in 2022 by winning a statewide election to become the state’s first female Land Commissioner. The agency said her work includes serving Texas veterans, supporting Texas energy and helping Texans after a disaster.

The release also pointed to related GLO announcements, including Women Veterans Recognition Day and a new online donations portal for the Texas Veterans Land Board.
