The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) released the results of its Speak Up, Texas campaign, a statewide initiative inviting Texans to share ideas for improving home and auto insurance, the agency said in a Sept. 10 news release.
From March through July, more than 200 people participated online and in person, providing feedback on the challenges they face and the changes they would like to see, according to TDI. The top challenges Texans cited were affordability and claims handling, the agency said.
“Thank you to everyone who shared their ideas. Your insights truly matter, and your voices will help shape the recommendations we bring to lawmakers. Together, we’re building solutions that make a real difference for Texas families,” Insurance Commissioner Amanda Crawford said in the release.
TDI said it will use ideas from the campaign to develop recommendations for lawmakers ahead of the 90th legislative session, which begins in Austin in January 2027. When feasible, the agency will also implement ideas within its current authority and encourage insurance companies to identify ways they can make improvements, according to the release.
TDI also reminded Texans to review their insurance and shop around for the best price and coverage, saying that comparing plans can help consumers save money and make sure they are protected. The agency pointed to HelpInsure.com as a way to see options in their area.
Texans with insurance questions can call the TDI Help Line at 800-252-3439, and complaints can be filed through the agency’s complaint page, the release said.
