The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) announced that as of May 1, more than 12.3 million Texans — approximately 53% of the state’s age-eligible population — have adopted “Texas by Texas” (TxT) as their official digital government assistant.
According to the agency, the milestone marks a significant shift in how the public interacts with state agencies, moving away from disparate systems and toward a single, consolidated platform. TxT allows users to create a single account to link credentials, store payment methods, and manage various state transactions from a single dashboard.
According to the agency, approximately 7,000 Texans sign up for a new account every day. Since its inception, the platform has facilitated more than 29.6 million transactions across high-volume services, including driver license renewals, vehicle registration, and professional licensing.
Developed and maintained by Deloitte under contract with the DIR, the platform is designed to increase efficiency and ease of use for residents. Current services integrated into TxT include driver license and ID services via the Department of Public Safety, vehicle registration through the Department of Motor Vehicles, boat registration via Texas Parks and Wildlife, and massage licensing through the Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Initial user feedback indicates high levels of satisfaction; approximately 93% of surveyed users approved of the app’s convenience, and it currently holds a 4.9 out of 5 rating on the Apple App Store.
DIR Executive Director and State Chief Information Officer Tony Sauerhoff said that the agency’s vision is to “transform how Texas government serves Texans” by delivering more accessible and efficient digital services.
The state said it plans several expansions for the platform later this year. These updates include opening account creation to out-of-state users — specifically individuals 18 and older without a Texas driver license or ID — following identity verification. Other planned features include barcode scanning during sign-up to streamline registration and improved digital accessibility for Texans of all abilities.
“With the TxT platform, our focus is on making government services easier for Texans to access and use, saving time and money for all involved,” Sauerhoff said.
