Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is encouraging Texans to sign up for the General Land Office’s 2026 Adopt-A-Beach Fall Coastwide Cleanup, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, at 25 locations stretching from Sea Rim State Park to Boca Chica, the agency announced Aug. 18.
The fall event is one of the program’s two annual coastwide cleanups and lands in a year the GLO is marking as Adopt-A-Beach’s 40th anniversary.
According to the agency, the program holds coastwide cleanups each April and September, along with smaller cleanups in February in South Texas. Between those dates, the release said, Adopt-A-Beach helps local groups coordinate one-off special cleanups along the coast.
In the 40 years since the program began, more than 600,000 volunteers have cleaned over 12,000 miles of beach and collected more than 10,000 tons of trash, the GLO said. The agency described the free public event as open to all Texans and visitors, with registration available through its website.
The release listed this year’s sponsors as Chevron, SLB, Valero, ExxonMobil, ONEOK, Garner, the Texas Coastal Management Program, NOAA, Ocean Conservancy and SESCO Cement. The agency described Adopt-A-Beach as an all-volunteer program dedicated to keeping Texas beaches clean and educating communities about the effects of marine debris.
