The Texas attorney general’s office has begun distributing more than 7 million free eggs to food banks across the state, with more than 1.7 million already delivered, Attorney General Ken Paxton announced in a Sept. 8 news release.
Another 5.322 million eggs are scheduled for delivery in the coming weeks, according to the release. The donations are the product of antitrust settlements reached earlier this year, and they arrive as households continue to feel the effects of egg prices that state and federal lawyers say were artificially inflated.
In June 2026, Paxton secured settlements with Cal-Maine Foods, Centrum/Versova and Hickman’s Egg Ranch, the office said. The agreements resolved antitrust claims brought by the U.S. Department of Justice and other state attorneys general stemming from an alleged conspiracy to inflate egg prices between 2022 and 2025. Under the settlements, the companies agreed to donate 7 million eggs to Texas food banks and to pay a combined $3.3 million to participating states.
“After securing 7 million eggs for the people of Texas, I am excited to announce that Texans will now have an opportunity to receive cartons of free eggs in communities across the state,” said Attorney General Paxton. “I will continue to help our families put food on the table and do everything within my power to lower prices and help Texans who are struggling to make ends meet.”
The deliveries are being coordinated with Feeding Texas, which the attorney general’s office described as the largest hunger-relief organization in the state. Seventeen food banks are participating.
The largest single allocation goes to the Houston Food Bank, which will receive 1,544,400 eggs, according to the release. The North Texas Food Bank in Plano and the Tarrant Area Food Bank in Fort Worth will each receive 842,400, while the Central Texas Food Bank in Austin and the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley in Pharr will each receive 561,600 and the San Antonio Food Bank will receive 464,600. Deliveries of 280,800 eggs are set for the East Texas Food Bank in Tyler, the Coastal Bend Food Bank in Corpus Christi, El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank, the West Texas Food Bank in Odessa and the South Texas Food Bank in Laredo. Allocations of 140,400 eggs are headed to food banks in Abilene, Wichita Falls, Victoria, Amarillo, Lubbock and Beaumont.
The office said the remaining deliveries will continue over the coming weeks as the settlements are carried out.
