McKinney Physician to Lead Area’s First Walk with a Doc Texas Event Sept. 26

McKinney physician Francy Shu, MD, will lead the area’s first Walk with a Doc Texas event Sept. 26 at Bonnie Wenk Park, a free monthly program backed by the Texas Medical Association.

McKinney residents of all ages are invited to join physician Francy Shu, MD, for the area’s first Walk with a Doc Texas event on Saturday, Sept. 26, according to a Sept. 22 media advisory from the Texas Medical Association (TMA).

The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. at Bonnie Wenk Park, 2996 Virginia Parkway, where participants will meet at the “City of McKinney Trail Etiquette” sign near the park’s main entrance. The association said the walks will recur monthly on the fourth Saturday.

The program is free, and preregistration is not required, according to TMA. Information about future walks will be posted on the local chapter’s Walk with a Doc website.

The concept is simple, the association said: physicians organize walks in their communities and invite patients, their families and other community members to join them. Each outing includes a brief health information talk, and Dr. Shu and other health care professionals will support participants and answer questions along the route.

TMA described walking as one of the simplest and best things people can do to live a long, high-quality life, and said the program makes it easier by providing the time, place, motivation and fellow participants.

Walk with a Doc is a national nonprofit started in 2005 by David Sabgir, MD, a board-certified cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio, with a mission to inspire communities through physician-led walking groups. In Texas, the program is backed by TMA, and the association said Walk with a Doc Texas is funded in 2026 by the TMA Foundation with support from the TMA Insurance Trust and gifts from other institutions, physicians and their families.

TMA, based in Austin, represents more than 60,000 physician and medical student members and has 110 component county medical societies across the state, according to the advisory. The McKinney walk adds a North Texas stop to a statewide roster of physician-led walking groups, giving Collin County residents a regular, no-cost way to stay active alongside local doctors.
