The Texas Workforce Commission has awarded Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande a $58,500 High Demand Job Training grant to prepare local students for long-term careers in healthcare, the agency said in an Oct. 30 news release.
The agency said the grant will equip students in Weslaco with specialized, high-demand skills in the healthcare industry. Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande is partnering with the Weslaco Economic Development Corporation and Texas Southmost College to fund Patient Care Technician certification training for 25 students, according to the release.
“When we align education with the immediate needs of local industry, we create a clear pathway to success for Texas workers,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III. “This program provides the specialized expertise necessary for students to hit the ground running in high-demand healthcare careers from day one.”
Treviño presented the award at a ceremony attended by state and local officials at Weslaco City Hall, the agency said.
The High Demand Job Training program is part of TWC’s statewide effort to support collaboration between workforce development boards and local economic development entities, according to the release. The agency said those partnerships help create job training programs that prepare people in communities across Texas for high-demand occupations.
TWC encouraged businesses interested in the training program to contact their local Workforce Solutions office or visit the High Demand Job Training Program webpage.
